Inauguration Day

Yesterday was an exciting day for Americans! The election and inauguration of a new president always brings with it hope and promise for the future. This year was no exception. We are looking forward to what lies ahead for our country and its people.

C and M decided that they wanted to go into the city to be part of the inauguration festivities. W took them to the Metro and, after arriving at their Metro destination, walked until they reached a place where they were allowed in to join the crowd. They ended up near the Washington Monument and were able to hear all of the inauguration proceedings even though they weren't able to see a jumbotron or see anything else except the crowd. C took a picture of just part of the crowd - the flags are around the Washington Monument so the capitol is off in the distance to the right more than a mile away.

After the swearing-in ceremony, they walked around the mall and eventually found themselves in the area where the parade participants were lining up and were able to see some of the parade entries.

An interesting day - one that will remain in their memories and will be shared with future generations.

Dear Jane
How exciting that you were there for the inauguration. Chuck and I were within a block of Pres. O's house today. A dear friend of ours is at the U of C hospital. We have eaten at his favorite restaurant - "Dixie's Kitchen" because it is a favorite of ours as well. paula used to live in Hyde Park and her boyfriend, Tim still does.
Sorry to hear about Susan's car accident; how frightening for her. She looks good. How are you doing living so far from her? I can only imagine how difficult it must be for you and Wayne.
How is Marcia liking her job? Tell me about how she is doing and how your trip to hawaii was.
That's all for now.
Bye
Lee
